Music & Announcement System for Moonpig's New Warehouse

Project Overview

Moonpig, a leading UK company specialising in personalised greeting cards and gifts, required an audio solution for their new warehouse in Tamworth.

To enhance communication and create an improved working environment, they approached Audio Volt to design and install a comprehensive music and announcement system for the main packing area and canteen.

Moonpig required:

2-Zone Control: Individual volume control in the packing area and canteen.
Loud and clear sound: Full-range, high-quality audio in all areas.
Paging: The ability to make announcements.
Ease of use: Simple and easy for staff to understand and operate.

The Sound System Explained

The audio system Audio Volt specified was designed to match Moonpig's high standards. Given the size of the warehouse, it would be costly and time-consuming to adjust the equipment after installation, so it had to be high-quality and offer long-term reliability.

Because of this, Audio Volt settled on Cloud Electronics for the amplification, and a combination of Clever Acoustics & Audiokraft for the speakers.

Cloud CX163 2-Zone Mixer

The Cloud CX163 2-Zone Mixer was chosen to control the system:

Simple to Use: The mixer only has 3 buttons per zone - source, music volume and mic volume. This makes it very easy for staff to use and operate with little to no knowledge.
Zonal Control: The volume and source can be adjusted per zone, allowing the canteen to be set to a lower volume than the warehouse.
Anti-tamper Controls: The maximum gain for each input can be set on the rear of the mixer, meaning staff cannot exceed a maximum level set by management.

Cloud CV2500 100V Line Amplifier

For amplification, the Cloud CV2500 2-channel amplifier was chosen to power the speakers:

1kW RMS Power: Due to the size of the warehouse, the speakers needed to be loud. 1KW of power meant the speakers could be set to their maximum power output without the risk of overloading.
2 Channels: Keeping with the zonal requirements, the CV2500 features 2 channels that provide the individual control needed for the warehouse and canteen areas.
Digital Interface: While most of the control is dealt with by the CX163, there is the option to digitally connect to the CV2500 for further control is required. This can also be done remotely.
Quality & reliability: The CV2500, as with most Cloud equipment comes with a 5-year warranty. It's also built and tested by hand in the UK by Cloud, so the chances of encountering any issues are near zero.

Clever Acoustics MH 50 Music Horn Speakers

The speakers we chose for the warehouse were the Clever Acoustics MH 50:

Full Range Sound: The MH 50 speakers are 'music horns', meaning they have a full range frequency response. This means they retain the qualities sought after in a horn speaker, while also sounding great for music playback - something 'normal' horn speakers are not so good at.
Loud and Clear: The speakers in this system have been designed to run at 50W. Because of the large open area, this loud volume will fill the space comfortably allowing staff to hear wherever they are.
Wide Dispersion: Horn speakers have a wide and long dispersion of sound, meaning it travels much further than a typical wall speaker. This is ideal in a large warehouse space as it makes speaker placement much simpler, and fewer speakers are needed.

Audiokraft PCS-60T Ceiling Speakers

The speakers we chose for the canteen were the Audiokraft PCS-60T:

Flush & Discrete: The PCS-60T speakers fit flush into the ceiling and feature a bezeless white grille. This makes them practically invisible when installed for a clean aesthetic.
Clear & Powerful: The PCS-60T's provide a clear and powerful sound, especially for their size. This helps cut through the background noise in the canteen to create a nice ambience, and to hear important announcements.

Monacor PDM-302 Paging Microphone

To make announcements, we decided on the Monacor PDM-302 microphone:

Easy to Use: The PDM-302 Micropbone was chosen as it's very easy to use. With a single push of a button, users can make announcements sitewide.
Easy to Install: Because the PDM-302 is a dynamic microphone, it requires no external power.
Clear and Legible: The high-quality capsule in the microphone results in a clean and legible signal, making announcements easy to hear and understand.

Adastra AS-6 DAB Radio Player

For music playback, Moonpig wanted a simple radio tuner. We specified the Adastra AS-6 as a solution:

DAB/FM: The AS-6 features DAB & FM for 100's of radio stations.
Auto-playback: When powered on from shut down, the AS-6 will automatically start playing the last selected station.
Bluetooth: Built-in Bluetooth allows users to stream music from their phone or tablet, and the external antenna provides a strong signal.
